THE TRIBESMAN AND TEACHER

THE ORIGINAL TRIBESMAN

The Original Tribesman (Bongbiemi Nfor): The Tribesman left home at a young age to pursue post-secondary education. Hailing from the Kingdom of Binka, one of the villages from then Donga/Mantung Division in the Northwest of Cameroon, he traveled to the United Kingdom in the mid-1980s in pursuit of university education on a government scholarship. Completed his studies in England in the mid-1990s in Agricultural Engineering and later on in Nursing. Moved to Canada in 1996 to the city of Edmonton in Alberta.

Throughout his travels, Culture, Music and Entertainment have always been a passion of his. Arriving in Edmonton in 1990’s, the Tribesman quickly integrated into the diverse Edmonton Community first, volunteering at the then Science & Space Centre (now TELUS World of Science Edmonton). Arriving in the middle of one of the worst recession in Alberta, work was hard to find but the Tribesman found himself in the Alberta Social Welfare’s “Back to Work Program” working for Alberta Agriculture as a Crop Research Officer for $5.50/hour! Was part of the team that researched the possibility of growing hemp in the short crop growing window of the Alberta climate. Later on would combine this position with a casual position as a registered nurse working on the weekends.

In community engagement he would also add volunteering at the University of Alberta’s campus radio “CJSR 88.5 FM” as DJ TOT- The Original Tribesman , presenting “Asiko Africa” a weekly Afrocentric music program. He was cofounder of “Isokan Afrika” an energetic African drumming, dance and entertainment ensemble. He was cofounder in 2001 with then “Sister J” (now Waymytea) one of Edmonton’s brilliant female reggae singers to form the reggae band “Souljah Fyah” which went on to be nominated for a Juno Awards and also won a number Canadian Reggae Band of the year awards in the late 2000s. In recent times the Tribesman has collaborated with the Cameroon Savannah Association of Edmonton to produce their yearly cultural dances, music and entertainment.

Presently involved with his nephew & nice Jimmy Nfor and Sandra Nfor in setting up “The Lion Kingdom Enterprises” an integrated company that provides fitness, fashion , culture, entertainment, health and community engagement with an “organic” touch. The Tribesman is combining and bringing his many talents to The Lion Kingdom in a big way in the culture, entertainment and health department.

As we say in the Motherland: “Life’s home is located in the present moment. There is no replay button in life”.

Some call it Mindfulness.
