WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE!!
Our African Aerobics classes provide a full body workout while giving you the freedom to express
yourself to the powerful beat of African music. It is an exhilarating and unique cultural experience that
will make you feel energized and alive while helping to release stress and strengthen body and mind.
Classes are conducted in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere and are accompanied as often as
possible by live African Drumming so that the students can feel the energizing power of the drums and
get a better understanding of traditional African rhythms.
No previous dance experience is required, anyone is welcomed to join and have fun!
Amida Eto was born in 1990, in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. She speaks three languages (English, French and Swahili). She also understand “Bembe”, a South Kivu dialect. As a child, she had a lot of interest in dance. However, she was very shy and reserved. She never professionally study dancing, but dance was always part of her. From age 15 to 16 she took some dance classes and joined the cheerleading team at her school in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada.
At age 17, she moved to Edmonton. She attended Maurice Lavallée High School, and at that same school, she was able to share her love of dancing with other students by performing few African dances to school events and also performing at weddings in the Congolese community, and recently for the Haitian community.
At age 20, she attended her first Zumba class at the World Health Club in Edmonton. The Zumba classes enlarged her dancing experiences. She is now a great Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia and Reggaetón dancer. After attending Zumba classes for 9 years, she decided to become a licensed Zumba instructor (a ZIN “Zumba Instructor Network” Member) in February of 2019. At the same, she is also working into giving back to the African community by becoming an Afro Fitness Instructor. Dancing has given her an opportunity to share her love of dance and her history with the world.
Sandra Nfor, has loved teaching and performing long before making her way into the Lion Kingdom family. A choreographer from a young age and a natural dancer all her life. Sandra attended HPHS modern dance program in Beltsville, Maryland from 2005-2009 (now known as High Point high school for the Performing and Visual Arts) where she trained in all forms of dance. Ranging from contemporary dance to hip-hop but finds her favorite style to be African and Latin dance. Sandra has then continued her passion for dance through out the years and just recently began her professional career as a licensed dance group fitness instructor. Sandra has been looking for something to give her a creative spark like dance has always done , and she found that here in the Lion Kingdom. Where she will be teaching Aerobic African dance classes. Dancing since the age of 6, she has much knowledge of technique and the culture!
